I've also been submitting questions directly to the samsung support and I recently submitted another question with multiple screenshots of the issue. I'm pretty sure the last time I checked no one owned this phone other than me.īefore anyone asks I have updated Samsung Link and Kies on my PC to the latest versions as of. So does anyone have experience with Samsung Link and their S7 so far?Īlso, plugging the S7 into my pc and opening up Kies gives me an error saying I'm not the device owner and I need to log into the device as the owner to access kies. In the app itself I can see my PC and my S4 as registered devices but it won't let me select or access them.Īnd in the PC browser Link manager page I can see my S7 as a registered device but it won't let me access it. Funny side note: I get a crash error after I force close the Link app and I'm just chillin on my home screen and I open the Link app in my PC browser and try to access my S7. I get the crash error all throughout the app. So I'm hopeful that I could still use it a bit. Once I install it and start the app up it throws a crash error immediately but doesn't close. I'm glad samsung has made it easy for us to find the stupid app. So I had to find the app on the PC and then email myself a link directly to the play store. My troubles started when I tried searching for the Link app on the play store but couldn't find it. It used to be a snap to get files from my PC to my phone with Link. But all the other files (scl, spb, sls, sme, ssh, ssc, swp, swi, bk) are encoded in a format I can't read, and some might be encrypted.I have had my phone since 2/29 and I cannot figure out how to get Samsung Link working like I did with my old S4. I can see it has taken a backup of more than it likes to admit! I can see a whole list of APK files in a subfolder of the backup location. How do I restore the rest of the stuff like apps, app data, messages, account settings, customized settings, widgets and app shortcuts on the home screens? It's still the same bloody "smart" phone! It's not like I have switched to some Samsung Bada phone or something. This item cannot be restored to the connected device. If I hover over this icon I get a bubble message explaining the following. There's also a small blue warning triangle icon with exclamation mark on the side of each of these options. The options that I can't select for restore are greyed out. This makes absolutely no sense! It's absolutely insane!! Why offer to backup something you know you can't restore?. Obviously, it offers to restore less than half of the things it had taken a backup of. This is what it offers to restore after the reset. (Click on screenshots below for a bigger view.) Here's a list of the stuff it offers to backup. When you make a backup, it offers to include everything in the backup. Because apparently, the Samsung Kies (version 2.5_7) can only restore some parts of your data from a previous backup. What they failed to tell me is that I won't be able to restore all my stuff to the phone. ![]() I followed through and I've done that (the initial problem still remained).
